AUSTRALIAN SOLID OPALS- Opals in general are among the most delicate gemstones. There are two main reasons why they are regarded as delicate. One reason is that they are relatively soft, so they can easily be scratched. Another reason is that are made up of significant water content. Due to their water content, opals are sensitive to sudden changes in temperature. If a solid opal becomes too dry, it can crack. A small amount of olive / coconut oil can be rubbed onto the opal occasionally to help prevent cracking.
OPAL DOUBLET / TRIPLET- Opal doublets and triplets are not solid opals. They are made up of a thin layer of precious opal glued onto a backing, usually natural ironstone. Since the layers are glued together, exposure to water can weaken the glue and allow water to penetrate the space between the layers. The opal may then take on a grey or foggy appearance. To prevent this from happening to your opal doublet / triplet, JUX highly recommends avoiding exposure to water and/or moisture. Activities such as bathing, showering, swimming or washing hands can potentially damage the opal doublet / triplet. A damaged opal doublet / triplet piece cannot be returned and refunded if your opal has been damaged due to these reasons. To clean your opal, simply wipe with a soft clean cloth.
WELO OPAL- Most Welo Opals are 'hydrophane', which simply means it is porous enough to rapidly absorb water, much like a sponge. If your Welo opal absorbs excessive water, it can cause complete colour-loss and become transparent or opaque. To prevent this from happening to your Welo opal, JUX highly recommends avoiding exposure to water and/or moisture. Activities such as bathing, showering, swimming, washing hands, being in a humid environment, can all potentially damage your Welo Opal. A Welo Opal ring cannot be returned and refunded if your opal has been damaged due to these reasons. The trick is to always keep the Welo opal dry, but not extreme dryness or heat such as in front of a heater or in direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time. For storage, it's best to put your Welo opal piece in a ziplock plastic bag and store in a box or drawer. To clean your Welo opal, simply wipe with a soft clean cloth.
